Clay L. Shaw (1913-1974), New Orleans businessman, was tried in 1969 for conspiring to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. The State of Louisiana v. Clay Shaw was the only trial ever held in connection with the assassination. The case was initiated by New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who abused his power in an attempt to prove his conspiracy theory regarding the murder of the president. Jim Garrison (1921-1992) was born Earling Carothers Garrison. He was elected District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana, in 1961. Garrison investigated the assassination of President John F.
